The first post office in the county was Hilham, which was established in 1816, with Moses Fisk, the founder of Hilham, as the first postmaster, which office was kept in Fisk's home. Hilham had two rural routes - Route 1, established in 1905 and Route 2, established 1909, which routes serve a large section of the western part of Overton County. The two routes have been consolidated into one.
